It's Leap Day Baby!

Today I thought it would be adorable to post pictures of all my children jumping joyously to celebrate Leap Day. I quickly realized, however, that they take after their mom and literally cannot get more than a couple of inches off the ground. Alas, trying to capture their little leaps on film was a nearly impossible feat. The boys literally looked like they were standing there with weird (jumping!) faces. I'll spare you (and their future selves) the images. However, I couldn't scrap the whole post (it's Leap Day for goodness sakes... I'm not going to let it slip through my fingers!!) so if you squint a little and use your imagination, I'm sure you'll be able to see Maisie leaping.
As for today's outfit, I love mixing patterns and having fun with color while embracing the fact that a kid has got to be comfortable... especially if their crazy mom is going to try and get pictures of them jumping all day long!
I hope you used your extra day as wisely as I did! Ha.

Belly Slippers

Sometimes an ensemble just cannot survive the day.
Having fun is a big job and, if you're doing it right, it can also be quite messy. Around here that's not a problem because there is always a trusty old tutu just waiting to save the day! Dirt on your tights? Throw on some leggings! Yogurt on your skirt? Not to worry; your sparkly friend is here... just a quick change and
TA DA!!

See, that wasn't so bad! You're all set to practice at the barre... have fun!

Stripey Delight

What a perfect day to put on a fun stripey dress and play outside! Okay, so maybe it's become more of a tunic than a dress but it's still adorable. The little stitched flower with it's buttony (made up word alert!) center is so darn sweet and the pockets, oh how I love the pockets!
Girls clothes are great because you can wear them forever... dresses become tunics, tunics become shirts, leggings just keep on stretching and skinny jeans, like the ones that Maisie is wearing today, can just be rolled up and cinched at the waist (hooray for the adjustable waistband). Not to mention the fact that a purse can be carried forever and ever.

Sunday, Lazy Sunday

Oh Sunday, where did you go?
Here's Maisie in what she calls her "chilly day kitty" shirt. She loves the way the little felt boots feel and is constantly gazing lovingly at the cat on her tummy. Yesterday we paired it with jeggings and boots and the outcome was fairly hilarious. I mean seriously, when are jeggings not a riot?!

Marshmallows and Monsters

Today Greyson is rocking his favorite shirt of all time and he couldn't be happier! He has been wearing this one for almost a year and is very sad that it is starting to get a little small. It will be an emotional day when he has to pass it along to Maisie (to wear with a tutu, perhaps?). Speaking of sibling hand-me-downs, I did a lot of mending this weekend and was so excited to see that one pair of pants had a huge rip across the knee. It seems like a crazy thing to be happy about but I had seen this cute monster patch and was dying to put my own spin on it. Check it out:
First, I took a piece of red corduroy and stitched on some teeth. Then, I placed it inside the pant leg and sewed it into place. After that, all I had to do was add the eyes (I made the pupils with a fabric marker) and, voila, monster knee patch! Who knew a holey pant leg could be so stylish?!

Strawberry Madness

So, normally I would have paired this shirt and tights combo with a cute denim skirt (shocking, right?!) but they're all in the laundry and Maisie REALLY wanted to wear her strawberry shirt. Hence, the hilarious bubble shorts from last summer. Which I suppose is fitting (ironic since they were a bit of a squeeze to get into) because this shirt makes me think of those lazy days in July when nothing will quench your thirst like strawberry lemonade. Or, how about picking them fresh and making strawberry rhubarb pie? Yum. Ooh, and eating strawberry shortcake and then watching the fireworks out on the lake! Hmmm... I may need to go eat breakfast... have a great Saturday!

Penguin Pile

Ah, the penguin pile, what a perfect way to end the week! I am so obsessed with these footless little cuties that I've started doing roly-poly piles of everything I can think of... owls, pandas, Yodas... you name it and I'll pile it! There's just something about their precarious placement that appeals to me. This shirt looks really cute with a denim skirt and tights. Especially these tights... red, purple (two shades!) AND argyle?! Sign me up!
And the addition of purple into the color scheme means that I can spice up Maisie's braids with Rapunzel flowers... yay!! But we wouldn't want to get too matchy-matchy now would we? Green and black shoes to the rescue! These are sandals that the boys used to wear... perfect!
Oh, and I just had to add this squinty-eyed quirky underbite smiling picture... love this little girl!!

Stick Your Neck Out, Sunshine!

This shirt is one of my favorites because of the unexpected use of color. An aqua and chocolate brown giraffe, what's not to love?! And I love how it looks with this plaid tiered skirt (tutu if you ask Maisie). All you need are winter boots, a giant flower and a pair of sunglasses and you're ready to hit the town!

Little Stinker

I have an irrational fear of skunks. Making this shirt was my way of staring that fear right in the eye and absolutely not allowing it to own me. Aren't I so brave? I use children's clothing to combat real life phobias and you can too! I mean, honestly, this skunk is so cute that I just can't hate it no matter how hard I try. I love when little girls wear kelly green and this shirt looks amazing with the shoes (hand-me-downs from her brothers). Oh, and these tights, I cannot get enough of these tights! I swear I'm making shirts just to go with them... stay tuned for Maisie in her sushi shirt as well as the all-new panda from my Spring Collection!

Hey Mom, Boys Can Look Cute Too

A certain little boy wanted to say hello and show off one of his favorite shirts!!

So Greyson thinks this blog needs a little super-hero action and I can't say that I disagree! My boys are really into them right now and I have started making mini heroes to put on their polo shirts. They are constantly in the rotation so I'm sure another one will make an appearance soon! Speaking of a lot of wear, almost all of the boys' pants have star patches somewhere because of all the holes. Don't give up on a pair of pants just because they're holey... jazz them up with a patch (or two, or three)! Stay posted for a patch tutorial. Oh geez, I almost forgot the "bumblebee" shoes! He love, love, loves them!

Princess Valentine

Maisie had a Valentine's party today and was so excited because she got to wear her pinktastic outfit from Valentine's Day all over again... with an additional tutu thrown into the mix. Seriously, when is one ever enough?!
And yes, those are Rapunzel flowers in her braids.

Maisie is so in love with this shirt from Mini Boden that I think I'm going to try and recreate the technique they used and make her a shamrock for St. Patty's Day... stay tuned!!

It's Never Too Late To Give Thanks

Back in November I had big dreams about a blog centered on Maisie's daily outfits. A "What I Wore" for fashionista toddlers. Brilliant, right?! However, I only took one picture and didn't even post it. Yikes. Well, three months have passed and the time has come to embrace the brilliance (and some modesty... cough, cough). Here's Maisie on her way to the Thanksgiving feast at Oliver's school. Hopefully you'll see her again before the 4th of July!!

With each daily outfit post I'm going to include a little info about the pieces that Maisie (or one of her brothers) is wearing and where they can be purchased. Unless it is a Cutie Hoots design, I cannot guarantee that the item you see will be available but hopefully this blog will still serve as an inspiration when dressing your toddler! As for the Cutie Hoots products, feel free to email me if you would like them (or something similar) for the kid in your life!
